Two great pigs in NJ need a new forever home --Cranberry and her brother Wilshire need a new Home. Their family is moving to CO and will be living in the mountains, not a good environment for the pigs. Cranberry is a bright eyed girl, she is confident and smart. She comes when called and sits on command. She loves her belly rubbed, and is always the first one to
the fence for feeding and to run out when it is play time in the yard. Caution is necessary when giving treats, as she gets so excited. She has no problem with meeting new people, and does not mind the other farm animals. Cranberry is a smart, confident and sweet pig. Will you give Cranberry and her brother a new forever home?? Your Pig’s Health: Hydration --In winter, your pig is less active, whether he lives indoors or
out. He is not out grazing, and this reduces his intake of water, and his exercise. If your pig is not taking in enough water, his skin will be drier than ever, and his digestion will be affected, causing hard stool which can develop into a serious health concern. In addition, keeping urine flowing freely is very important in potbellies, as they can be prone to developing
crystals that can potentially block urine flow and/or cause infection. For these reasons, it is important to be aware of your pig’s water intake, and to observe him at “potty? often, to be sure that he is urinating and passing his stool easily. Always add water to your pig’s pellets at mealtimes. Warm water especially will be
appreciated by piggy in cold weather. Add equal amounts of water to pellets, cup for cup, at least. Also encourage our pig to drink by adding a shot of juice to a bowl of water once or twice a day. If you find your pig’s stool are hard, or he is straining to pass them, you can use Metamucil (unflavored/sugar free), and add fiber to his diet by introducing salad greens, cooked cabbage, or canned pumpkin. (watch your pig’s weight if you are using pumpkin, – it
may add too many calories to a pig who gains weight easily). Whenever weather permits, encourage your pig to exercise – allow him outside time for short periods, or take him on outings on his leash. Do keep in touch with your veterinarian if you observe constipation, straining, or difficulty
urinating. He can determine if a blockage exists and provide medical treatment. National Pig Day, March 1st -- Valentine's Day has come and gone, but we have lots of T-Shirts and other
